Felicity Condition of Expressive Speech Act Uttered by Public Figures in Covid-19 News

Abstract. This research aims to identify the expressive speech act and its felicity condition uttered by high-profile figures. It specifically attempts recognize types of act, intended meaning those types, their conditions. The qualitative method was applied accomplish study objectives. data were figures’ utterances collected from covid-19 related news on an online site (https://www.merdeka.com/). focuses acts since they are also known as evaluative acts. Moreover, analyzing public figures in may give insight how Indonesia’s government manage cases. results confirm that taken fulfilled some namely praising, thanking, deploring, lamenting, congratulating, flattering. determined interpreting speakers’ intention based context. Furthermore, each type is discovered conducting four formulas, which preparatory condition, propositional content, sincerity essential condition. These formulas determine validity utterances.
